Someone in the SecondLife audience at the Stanford Metaverse U conference, listening to the presentation by Jon Brouchard about Wikitecture said Jon has blogged about this at http://archsl.wordpress.com.
One of the points in Brouchard’s talk was something about people always asking if they can import their content from other 3D worlds into SecondLife. He said, not [...]

I’m just messaging with a friend of mine who is also at the SecondLife version of the Metaverse U conference, Paradox Olbers. He tells me he’s posting pictures of this event on his blog, too. He says he’s going to make a tag there specifically for this event, so if you go there after the [...]

The Metaverse conference has broken for lunch, and most of the virtual world attendees are “AFK” (away from keyboard), too. So this might be a good moment to catch up with what has been happening on the side during this event.
I have to disagree with John Brown’s blog on one point. He said he thinks [...]

One of the panelists at the Metaverse U conference just mentioned that he doesn’t live in California, so he had to get on an airplane to come to Stanford to talk about virtual worlds, and how hypocritical that is. Good point! Right now the technology is really not quite advanced enough to have really [...]

After a break, the Metaverse U conference is resuming. During the break, one of the other attendees told me in IM (instant messaging) that he’s blogged about this event, too.
There is a panel discussion being introduced now. The panel are Christian Renaud, Chief Architect of Networked Virtual Environments at Cisco Technology Center, Byron Reeves, a [...]

I’m not going to try to blog the content of the presentations. Those will be posted online soon at the Metaverse U website, so to try to capture it here would be redundant as well as impossible for me.
It’s really cool that the chatter in SL is being discussed in the Q&A session following Ginsu [...]

The chatter in SecondLife, done in text that everyone within “earshot” (25 meters) can read, makes an interesting backdrop to the speakers on the video screen. It would be rude in RL (Real Life), but it’s customary in SecondLife, and adds a whole new dimension to presentations. The comments, some serious, some joking, in [...]

I’m presently attending a Stanford conference on the metaverse while sitting in my recliner with a cat on my lap in Texas. This is the way to do it! My avatar is sitting in the SciLands “Skyditorium” floating above an island in SecondLife with about 50 other virtual attendees.

I’ve been aware of this open-source virtual world server application for some time, at least in theory, but haven’t researched it yet. However, through an interesting string of events I just found a blog that discusses installing and using it. I’m going to add this to my link list, it’s so interesting as well as [...]

Welcome to new media on the go. Exactly what that means will be developed as we go (which is part of the self-referential meaning in itself), but for now I want to talk more about the new media aspect than the on the go part.
I just received a couple of new products from Reallusion® for [...]
