I finally got the Project Wonderland client to work!! The last problem I had to surmount was the result of my rustiness on the Linux platform, not a problem with the Wonderland software. I had to rewrite the $PATH variable in my .bashrc file to make the system look for Java first in /use/local/bin instead [...]

OpenSim blog
April 25, 2008
I’ve just added a link in my ‘blogroll’ (in the left sidebar) to justincc’s opensim blog. Thanks to Troy McConaghy for a pointer to that
Java6 At Last!
April 24, 2008
It’s required a lot of midnight oil and not a few grey hairs, but I finally got Java6 JDK, JRE and browser plugin installed. They’re not on Debian Linux, as I’d planned, but on a new installation of OpenSUSE Linux. That’s the distro Sun supports for Wonderland, so I finally gave in and reinstalled it [...]
Great Presentation about Science in SL
April 18, 2008
Troy McConaghy, who in SecondLife™ is known as Troy McLuhan, gave his presentation about “science stuff” in SecondLife tonight for the Serious SL in Boulder Meetup group. This blended reality event was primarily a SecondLife event projected into real life via projected computer images.
Wondering about Wonderland
April 17, 2008
A few people from the MICA -VW Astrophysics group in SecondLife have been tossing around the idea of establishing a SIG for those interested in exploring other Virtual Worlds. The idea of even putting up a server at Drexel for the purpose of playing with a Sun Microsystems Project Wonderland region has been suggested. So, [...]
Extending LSL

LSL, or Linden Scripting Language, was originated by Linden Lab, the creators and owners of SecondLife™. It is remarkably easy to use, and can allow “residents” of SecondLife and OpenSim based virtual worlds to do many marvelous things in these 3D environments. (OpenSim is the open source version of SecondLife’s server software.) One of the [...]
Another VW List
April 13, 2008
I just saw a link to this Google Docs spreadsheet in another blog, Virtual World SIG. It is much more than just projects using OpenSim server software, but rather covers all VWs, commercial and open source. Thanks to Orange Montagne (SecondLife name) for this link.
More VWs

After one of my friends in SecondLife, Opal Lei, asked me if I’d seen OpenLife and I had to say no, I decided to take a look. We at the ISM have been talking for years about finding if not an alternative, at least an adjunct to SecondLife, since having all our IP eggs in [...]
New LL Video Posted
April 11, 2008
I got an email this morning from Goldie of Machinima by Silver & Goldie, producers of the machinima that has been at the center of the controversy here for the past week. She gave me the link to the newly revised video that replaces the one shown to the House Subcommittee. She apologized again for [...]
Linden Lab does the right thing
April 9, 2008
Following the comment on this site from Catherine Smith, Marketing Director at Linden Lab, apologizing for the mistaken impression left by the voiceover in the video shown to the House Telecommunications & Internet Committee, I’ve been contacted by Goldie of Goldie and Silver, the company who produced the machinima. They are replacing some of the [...]
