Ubuntu VM Problem

Written on February 12, 2008 by Katherine W. Prawl

I tried starting Ubuntu 7.10 Linux on a Parallels virtual machine for the first time in months, the first time since upgrading to Mac OS X Leopard (10.5), in fact. No joy. There must be some kind of incompatibility with the latest OS version, or perhaps the ISO image I have is corrupted. The latter is the easiest thing to test and fix, so now I’m downloading a new image, this time choosing just the server version instead of the desktop distro, since I don’t really need all the normal desktop applications, and do want a nice clean pre-installed LAMP suite. So, I threw away the old vm and will create a new one with the new disc image. If it still doesn’t work, I’ll have to go visit Parallels and see what is going on, I suppose. Sigh!
